This edition of PUZZLE JAZZ introduces a game called OFFBEAT CIPHERS. The object is to decode a series of messages where each code letter stands for a different letter in the decoded message. For example, the coded message:
SORT BLOB BEST could be decoded to read NAME THAT TUNE
where code letter S = decoded message letter N, O=A, R=M, T=E, B=T, L=H, and E=U.
The title and theme of this edition of the game is SIT-COM DITTIES. Each of the hidden messages to be decoded consists of the opening lyrics from the theme song of a popular TV situation comedy show from the 1950s – 1990s, followed by the name of the show (except where the name is already included in the lyrics). Each puzzle Track provides the year the sit-com began its run on television.
