Steven Skinner has been a working artist for over 30 years. He studied at Chicago’s Art Institute. His pottery reflects his fine art training and his interest in printmaking, sculpture, and ancient cultures. He uses hand-building techniques to push the boundaries of an object’s form, especially functional ones. He combines clays to create patterns and textures and glazes sparingly to highlight the clays’ beauty and the marks of his hand. He fires a high fire reduction kiln located at his studio in rural NW Indiana where he and his wife, Louise, live, make art, play with the dogs, and garden.
This Magic Bowl is first formed from a gourd shell and then it is further hand-formed, resulting in a truly unique piece.
