Steven Skinner has been a working artist for over 30 years. He studied at Chicago’s Art Institute. His pottery reflects his fine art training and his interest in printmaking, sculpture, and ancient cultures. He uses hand-building techniques to push the boundaries of an object’s form, especially functional ones. He combines clays to create patterns and textures and glazes sparingly to highlight the clays’ beauty and the marks of his hand. He fires a high fire reduction kiln located at his studio in rural NW Indiana where he and his wife live, make art, play with the dogs, and garden.
This vase represents his organic approach to pottery, with the free form top emerging from the cylindrical form. Stoneware is glazed with a porcelain top. The piece is signed and numbered.
