Dale Nichols - Hannukah Menorah Straight-line Design - Stainless

Regular price $60.00

A Hanukkiah menorah is a candelabra that holds nine candles and is the centerpiece of the Hanukkah celebration that commemorates the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem after it was taken back by the Maccabees in the 2nd century.

As the Jews cleansed the holy building for rededication, only one jug of oil, blessed and sealed by the high priest, the Kohen Gadol, remained for which to light the lamp. Heads hung low when they realized this was only enough oil to keep it lit for one night.

To their amazement, that one pure jug burnt for eight nights until more containers of sacred oil arrived. "It's a miracle," the Jewish people shouted as they danced. The Hanukkah celebration grew out of their excitement about this wonderment and each year it reassures them that strength, tenacity, and hope will always prevail.

Eight candles represent the number of nights of Hanukkah and one candle is lit for each night of the celebration. The ninth candle is the shamas, or helper candle, that is used to light the others.

Dale Nichols has artistically created this beautiful piece from New Zealand pine with stainless steel inserts that fit a 3/8" wide candle and a standard size Hanukkah candle.  The inserts are removable for cleaning and polishing.
